Jeremiah 29:11-14  “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” (NLT)

How will you shape the world your descendants will live in a hundred years from now? An honest, thoughtful response will require introspection and intention. Nothing changes tomorrow unless something changes today. One change can change everything.

I recently had a long conversation with a well-known author and leadership coach. He is in his early eighties. He has a plan for what he will accomplish through age ninety. He has a larger plan for how his life’s work will be deployed to influence the world a hundred years from now. This is a bit of a mind stretch.

This is not a new line of thinking. Start with the beginning of Jeremiah 29 and notice more than verses 11 and 13. God tells his people they will remain in Babylon for seventy years. (See verse 10.) While one false prophet in particular promised a two-year exile, God told the people this was no camping trip but an enduring relocation.

God tells his people to make a seventy-year plan. At the end of that plan, there would be a new plan.

How will you shape the world seventy years from now? Live a life God can bless. Such a life amplifies impact. Its ripples reach well beyond its life expectancy. It changes the atmosphere for generations.

Today is a good day to attend worship and ponder the possibilities of living as a generational change agent. Ask God to fill your thoughts with his vision, his dream for your life. Ask him to blow his fresh breeze through your life to refresh others. Ask him to shape the future so that it bends toward character and compassion, wisdom and worship.

However many years you and I have left, God can use them to build a better world for future generations. Let’s open ourselves to his possibilities.

I will live the kind of life God can use to bless future generations.

Our Father, you have used tools much simpler than me to accomplish beautiful things. Take my life and let it be a tool of your grace and mercy shaping generations to come. Amen.

Daily D – Job 1:9-11

Job 1:9-11 Satan replied to the LORD, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

Daily D – Psalm 145:17

Psalm 145:17
The Lord is righteous in everything he does;
he is filled with kindness.

Daily D – Psalm 139:1-6

Psalm 139:1-6
O LORD, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!

Daily D – Psalm 130

Psalm 130
From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.
Hear my cry, O Lord.
Pay attention to my prayer.

Daily D – Psalm 125:4-5

Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!
