2 Kings 6:33  While Elisha was still saying this, the messenger arrived. And the king said, “All this misery is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” (NLT)

2 Kings 7:17, 18  The king appointed his officer to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out. So everything happened exactly as the man of God had predicted when the king came to his house. The man of God had said to the king, “By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost one piece of silver.” (NLT)

Our dogs have precisely tuned stomach clocks. It is currently 6:03 AM. Breakfast is at 6:30. Soon, the nudges will begin. They will not want me to forget or delay. Again this evening, we will repeat these reminders. Reminders are unnecessary. We have a routine.

Truth is, I forgot to feed them one evening. A project so arrested my attention that nothing could break my concentration. Later, after Millie the Black Dog had given up and sadly sulked away to die from starvation, Ollie the Border Collie continued staring at me. He marched in place when I stood up from my chair. I asked him why he was staring at me. His Doggie Mind Meld worked. At long last, I repented of my negligence and saved the dogs from an untimely death.

The king was ready to give up one day too soon. The prophet knew the lesson God was teaching: To wait is not to hesitate. To wait is to trust God’s perfect timing. God is never early, never late. He is always right on time. Let your sense of timing be ruled by his heart, not your stomach.

The first nudge of the morning has now arrived. Morning breath is blowing on me. I’ve got to hurry up a little here.

God did precisely what he said precisely when he said he would do it (2 Kings 7:17, 18).

Learn the lesson well: God is always worth the wait.

I will wait on God when waiting is the order of the moment.

Our Father, you are worth the wait. Thank you for stretching us. Thank you for teaching us. Thank you for providing for us in your perfect timing. You set the stars in space. You ordered the earth to turn at the perfect rate to give us sunlight and dark, day and night, perfect conditions for work and rest. Amen.

Daily D – Ezekiel 18:30-32

Ezekiel 18:30-32 “Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you! Put all your rebellion behind you, and find yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O people of Israel? I don’t want you to die, says the Sovereign Lord. Turn back and live!”

Daily D – Ezekiel 11:19-20

Ezekiel 11:19, 20 “And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart, so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.”

Daily D – Ezekiel 3:10-11

Ezekiel 3:10, 11 `Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”
