1 Samuel 28:5, 6  When Saul saw the vast Philistine army, he became frantic with fear. He asked the Lord what he should do, but the Lord refused to answer him, either by dreams or by sacred lots or by the prophets. (NLT)

1 Samuel 30:8  Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” (NLT)

If God speaks and you do not listen, or if God speaks and you do not do what he says, you should not be surprised when he doesn’t speak upon your command. If you seek God with determination to do what he says, whatever it may be, you should not be surprised when he shows you the way you should go.

Here we have a pair of kings. Only one of them had an ace up his sleeve. One tried to cheat the game. The other played by the rules. Can you predict the outcome of this high-stakes match?

You may have heard a preacher or a radio announcer say, “God listens.” He does. He also speaks. He speaks most regularly to those who most regularly seek to hear and obey him.

How will you pray today?

I will seek God in prayer early and often, with expectation and eagerness.

Our Father, you have given us the gift of prayer. Teach us to pray. Teach us to listen. Teach us to hear and obey. Teach us so that we may know you better, serve you faithfully, and abide in your grace, mercy, and love at all times. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:1-7

Isaiah 6:1-7 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
