Leviticus 27:7  A man older than sixty is valued at fifteen shekels of silver; a woman of that age is valued at ten shekels of silver. (NLT)

How do you calculate your net worth? More importantly, how do you calculate your true value? More than your potential output, God measures what he would pay for you, and he gave his one and only son in exchange for you. You are truly worth more than you ever imagined. (John 3:16)

Leviticus 27:7 was a wee slap in the face this morning. Apparently, I lost value a couple of birthdays ago. Context is helpful:

The Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate someone to the Lord by paying the value of that person, here is the scale of values to be used. A man between the ages of twenty and sixty is valued at fifty shekels of silver, as measured by the sanctuary shekel.
Leviticus‬ ‭27‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Two birthdays ago, I was worth fifty shekels of silver. Today, I am worth fifteen. I am not a good investment. I am not an appreciating asset. Instead, according to my doctor bills, I am a depreciating liability.

Oh well.

I can feel really bad about getting older and diminishing in value by both ancient and current standards, or I can remember John 3:16.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I am going to lean into the value God placed on me. He gave his one and only Son for me. Not just for me, but he included me. And he includes you.

Someone will try to make you feel less than you are today. Someone will look down on you. Someone will not give you a second glance or a second thought. Warm your heart with the knowledge that you have God’s full and faithful attention and love. He’s crazy about you. His love never ends. His love never fails. His love is drawing you ever closer to his own heart.

Your true worth is incalculable.

You and I have a choice today. We can live by the perceptions of others, or we can live under God’s smile. Choose wisely.

“‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s hard not to smile back when someone smiles at us. Beautify your world by receiving and reflecting God’s smile on your life.

I will live under God’s smile.

Our Father, thank you for loving us so extravagantly. So many people in our lives want to push us down and away. Thank you for always picking us up and rebuilding our brokenness. Empower us to reflect your love and your smile. Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Deuteronomy 30:19, 20 “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 29:29

Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
