Exodus 39:42, 43  So the people of Israel followed all of the Lord’s instructions to Moses. Then Moses inspected all their work. When he found it had been done just as the Lord had commanded him, he blessed them. (NLT)

God blesses those who follow his instructions and join him in his work. God especially empowered Bezalel, Oholiab, and others skilled in special crafts. He told them what he wanted, and they turned dreams into reality.

Blessing is one of those words we use in a variety of contexts without great precision. It is acknowledgment with gratitude. It is the authoritative announcement of God’s favor.

Max DePree wrote in Leadership is an Art, “The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between the two, the leader must become a servant and a debtor.” This sounds like Moses’ role at Sinai.

God gave instructions for much more than the Tabernacle and its specialized furnishings. He provided order. A mob of free slaves miraculously left Egypt. Freedom is a formidable reality for people who have always been told what to do and when to do it. Indeed, freedom makes many good things possible. It also throws open a wide door to many not-so-good things.

God was providing the guidance the people needed to know how to live together in community, a community formed and destined for special service in a special place. They were not only the recipients of God’s blessings, they were to bless the whole world.

We seek God’s blessings and favor on our lives and on the lives of those we love. One thing we can ask God for in this regard is to give us wisdom and dedication to do what he wants the way he wants those things done. This is to ask him for the wisdom to do what he blesses rather than asking him to bless what we do.

How has God specially gifted you? What do you do better than ten thousand others? How can you use those gifts in such a manner that God’s inspection receives his blessing, his authoritative announcement of favor?

This kind of work builds better lives, homes, and communities.

Consider your life as the fusion of two funnels. One has the wide side turned toward heaven. This is us receiving God’s gifts and blessings. The second funnel turns the wide side toward others. This is us blessing others with all of the good things God has given us.

How will you bless others today with the blessings God has given you?

I will live a life God can bless and pass along all he gives me.

Our Father, thank you for blessing each one of us more abundantly than we can perceive. Thank you for the privilege of joining you in building better lives, homes, and communities. Thank you for looking on us with favor. How could we not praise your name? How could we not express our thanks? Amen.

Daily D – Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Deuteronomy 30:19, 20 “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 29:29

Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 26:16-19

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 “The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 23:4-5

Deuteronomy 23:4, 5 “For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”

Daily D – Deuteronomy 17:16-20

Deuteronomy 17:16-20 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and **he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left.** Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
