Howdy! And Happy New Year!

The Bible reading plan I am using this year is the YouVersion plan Bible Project: The Bible. I invite you to join me. You can learn more about the Bible Project here: https://bibleproject.com/

The Bible translation I will use this year is the New Living Translation. I will use the New International Version, the English Standard Version, the Christian Standard Bible, and The Message for comparison.

Who do you know who would benefit from these short devotionals? Send a sample using the sharing links in the banner at the top of this page. Add an invitation to join us on the journey. Let’s get to know God better and experience him daily. As you know, there are no financial solicitations, and there is nothing to buy.

If you would like for me and others to pray for you about anything at any time, feel free to email me: david@davidgbowman.com

Genesis 22:1 Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” (NLT)

Genesis 22:18 “And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” (NLT)

The benefits of obeying God far outweigh the promises of disobedience. Obedience may feel like a heavy lift at first until we see how good it is not only for us but for everyone we influence. Choosing the seductive promises of sin is a self-centered approach we often consider the easy way. It creates obstacles for us and everyone we influence. It makes life harder than it has to be.

God promised Abraham that he would bless him and make him a blessing to the whole world (12:1-3). He reaffirmed this again and again.

How deeply did Abraham trust God? How completely obedient was he? God knew. He wanted Abraham to know. He wanted Isaac to know. He wanted us to know.

Not only did he want us to know, but he also wanted to show that where he guides, he provides. Verse 14 launched a thousand sermons and a million reminders of God’s nature and character. He is the Giver of All Good Things. He knows what we need and when we need it most.

Abraham trusted God and was rewarded.

Abraham trusted God and Isaac was saved.

Abraham trusted God, and everyone who ever lived has been blessed to know how God can use one person to bless every person.

We need people like Abraham today. We need you to live a life of faith believing whatever God says and doing whatever God asks. We need people like you who trust that wherever God guides, he provides.

Another son walked up that mountain. Another son carried the means of his death upon his back. Another son was sacrificed. God’s one and only son (John 3:16, 17; 1 John 4:9) died there that day, the lamb of God, so that we might know the full extent of God’s love for us.

Make the world a better place today through your obedience. God will provide all you need to thrive and to bless everyone you meet.

I will honor God with my obedience.

Our Father, you have blessed us so extravagantly. Make us blessings to everyone we meet. Use us in whatever manner you see fit to build a better world. Lead us into strategic conversations and activities. Give us words and deeds that express your love, goodness, mercy, and kindness. Amen.

Daily D – 2 Peter 1:5-8

2 Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Daily D – Romans 12:18

Romans 12:18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself,
is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – James 4:6

James 4:6 But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

James 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.
