Romans 2:4
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? (NIV)

God is kind, but he’s not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change. (The Message)

God is truly good and mercifully kind. Two different words are used for kindness in this verse. Each of them points to the combination of goodness and kindness. Goodness is kind. Kindness is good. This is God’s steady state. He is not capricious. He does not lash out irrationally. He gently and patiently lovingly leads us to himself.

What would be different where we live, work, and play if we reflected this aspect of God’s nature? What light would this behavior shine? How differently would people think about Jesus if they saw this in us?

What if everyone in our lives could anticipate kindness from us?

What if our reputation was shaped over years by abiding goodness?

Ponder the possibilities. Experiment with experiences. Live and love like Jesus.

I will live and love like Jesus with goodness and kindness.

Our Father, shape my life so that others may anticipate kindness and experience goodness at every encounter. Purge my heart of all things unmarked by your goodness and kindness. Fill those newly-emptied spaces with more goodness and more kindness. Use these character qualities to demonstrate your seeking, saving, keeping love. Amen.

Ezekiel 11:19, 20 “And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart, so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.”

Daily D – Ezekiel 3:10-11

Ezekiel 3:10, 11 `Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”
