Acts 1:7  He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” (NIV)

An older-model Chevy pickup with a large camper rolled up into the parsonage driveway. A man with a stylish hat and a well-groomed beard climbed out of the truck and walked toward me where I was finishing up mowing the yard.

“You the preacher?” he asked.

“I am,” I said.

“I’m a prophet. God has given me a message about the End Times. He has told me when Jesus is coming back. I don’t care if you believe it or not, but it’s true. Now, if you will let me preach this Sunday, I will begin explaining what God has told me and we will see how people respond. If they respond well, we’ll keep the meeting going for the week. If the response continues going well, we’ll go a second week. All I ask in return is a love offering. This truck and camper are my home. My living expenses are low. What do you say?”

The word coming to my mind at that time was Nunya. This is not a Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic word, the languages of the Bible. This is an East Texas pronunciation of the first three words of the phrase, None of your business. If Jesus had grown up around Gilmer, he would have learned this term and would have employed it with great effect in Acts 1:7; Matthew 24:36, 42, and 44; and 25:13.

Jesus said as plain as day again and again, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.”

The next time a man in a pickup pulls up and tells you God has told him what Jesus said we couldn’t know, finish your yard work.

Also, take to heart the broader message of Matthew 24 and 25 and Acts 1 and 2. Get ready for Jesus’ return by helping others get ready for Jesus’ return. People need to know and experience him like you and I do. It is clear from these texts that people do not accidentally or haphazardly enter the Kingdom of God. They need to hear and understand the truth. They need to take it to heart and follow Jesus.

Feel free to add Nunya to your vocabulary. It will enrich your conversations with Pickup Prophets.

I will hear and obey what Jesus said about what I need to know and what I need to do.

Our Father, you have kept all of your promises. You will keep the promise of Acts 1:11 as well. Jesus will return. Judgment will commence. Those who know you and love you will be with you forever. Use us in whatever manner you see fit to help people hear and receive the good news of Jesus. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
