Daily D – Ezra 3:12-13
Ezra 3:12, 13 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.

Are you more prone to favor the good ol’ days or everything new and innovative? Where’s the balance? Let’s learn from the past to build a preferred future.
We live in a time like every other time, an age like every other age. Worldviews compete and ideals wrestle. Media shout while common people weep. Refugees seek a place of safety and possibility while politicians manipulate groups like chessboard pieces to gain more power, to wield more sway.
We ignore God’s instructions to do what is right, just, fair, and compassionate for everyone everywhere. We disobey his command to love all people. Some want to go back to the way things used to be. Some remember how things weren’t all that great back then, at least not for everybody.
There are truths every generation should live by and transfer to the generations who follow in their steps. There are prejudices every generation should seek to eliminate in preference for a disposition of loving behavior that seeks the highest good for everyone.
Today is a good day to weep for our losses.
Today is a good day to shout for our achievements.
Today is a good day to view each from God’s perspective ensuring what we see is how he sees things.
If you prefer the past, bring forward only what is right, just, fair, and compassionate. If you prefer the new and innovative, choose only what is the highest good for all people everywhere. In all things, seek the heart, mind, and hand of God. This turns tears of loss into streams of joy. This turns shouts of celebration into declarations of praise.

Our Father, remind us of truth that stands the tests of time. Empower us to use the tools of this age to expand your kingdom rule and reign where justice, fairness, kindness, and compassion express your loving heart to all people everywhere. Amen.
