Daily D – Ezekiel 46:9
Ezekiel 46:9 “ ‘When the people of the land come before the Lord at the appointed festivals, whoever enters by the north gate to worship is to go out the south gate; and whoever enters by the south gate is to go out the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which they entered, but each is to go out the opposite gate. (NIV)

Imagine entering God’s presence and leaving unchanged. This is an unfathomable thought. What difference will today’s worship make in us? Let’s evaluate this in our afternoon and evening reflections.
The last few chapters of Ezekiel amplify our imaginations. This verse and others around it repeat the idea of leaving through a different entrance than the one a person entered. A couple of handymen told me one day it is bad luck to go out a different door than the one you entered. I wonder what Ezekiel would have said to them?
Perfunctory worship is worship that leaves us unchanged. Let us never, ever experience this again. Let us do what Psalm 100:4 says:
give thanks to him and praise his name.

Stephen Covey writes in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People how we are to carry our weather within us. Let’s carry our praise and thanksgiving into worship and into those places where we live, work, and play.
Whichever exit you choose today, go with thanksgiving, go with praise.

I will praise God for who he is and thank him for what he has done.

Our Father, may we never enter and exit a worship service without knowing and experiencing you in ever-deeper, more profound ways. Speak to our hearts today as we exalt you with grateful praise. Amen.
