Psalm 25:14, 15 
The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. (NIV)

God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones he confides in. If I keep my eyes on God, I won’t trip over my own feet. (MSG)

A family drove for many hours to arrive at the Glorieta Conference Center near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The family had been talking for weeks about their plans for hiking the trails in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. 

At last, they arrived and unpacked their belongings. Dad finally gathered his family for their first hike. After the first mile or so of their journey up the trail with its stones and stream and sights, the son asked, “When are we going hiking? This is just walking.”

Some people realize at similar moments that what they thought would be a great adventure feels, in reality, a lot like yesterday and the day before. When they arrive at a place and take stock of where they are, how far they have come, and also how far they have to go, then they begin to understand how a long walk is more special than simply placing one foot in front of another. 

Each step moves us through our adventure. The Great Adventure of Life is less about a destination and more about the journey. 

In the first mile of the way, that boy saw boulders as big as a house, a stream in the summertime from higher up the mountain but with no obvious source, a small green snake about eighteen inches long, forests of Aspen and evergreen, and a sky so blue it defies description. 

It was the great theologian Ferris Bueller who said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” 

God shows his wonders to those willing to notice them. Our Father in heaven directs our paths when we are determined to follow after him, to walk with him, and to walk before him. 

God confides in those who seek to know and experience him. He is the Path Leader for our best adventures. 

What will you miss today if you don’t look around?

I will keep walking this adventure with Jesus and look around to see what he shows me.

 
 
 
 
 

Our Father, turn my walk into a hike. Turn my eyes away from my woes and toward the beauty, wonder, and delight of all you have created. I want to know you and experience in the journey before me today. Amen.

Daily D – Lamentations 3:19-27

Lamentations 3:19-27
“I remember my affliction and my wandering,
the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke
while he is young.”

Daily D – Job 32:1-5

Job 32:1-5 So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God. He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him. Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he. But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused.
