Joshua 4:14  That day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.

The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Jos 4:14.

Mark 12:38-40  As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”

The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Mk 12:38–40.

Contrast Moses and Joshua with the teachers of the law.

Moses and Joshua had gravitas. The teachers of the law had pretentiousness.

Moses and Joshua walked with God. The teachers of the law cultivated the appearance of walking with God.

Moses and Joshua led with humility and authenticity. The teachers of the law led with arrogance and attitude.

As you evaluate the legitimacy of spiritual leaders, keep these factors in mind. Trust leaders who spend more time on their face before God and less time getting their faces on social media and advertising.

I will walk with God in humility and authenticity.

Our Father, deliver me from me. Do not allow me to become the star of my own show. I wholeheartedly agree with what John the Baptizer said in John 3:30: He (Jesus) must become greater. I must become less. More Jesus, please. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
