Psalm 65:8
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
         where morning dawns, where evening fades,
         you call forth songs of joy.

The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Ps 65:8.

           Far and wide they’ll come to a stop,
                 they’ll stare in awe, in wonder.
                 Dawn and dusk take turns
                 calling, “Come and worship.”

Eugene H. Peterson, The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language (Colorado Springs, CO: NavPress, 2005), Ps 65:8.

This time next week, I plan to awaken surrounded by snow. To be sure, I plan to be inside in a nice, warm room by the fire gazing out the window at the morning sun reflecting off of the pure white brilliance of ski slopes. Hot coffee in hand, YouVersion Bible app open on my iPad, I will great the day with a verse like this one.

Spring has fairly sprung here at our house on the side of the hill. Temperatures are climbing. The sun arrives earlier and stays up later. Migratory birds sing their traveling songs. Buds will soon awaken as blooms. Bulbs will send forth their shoots and blossom with glorious beauty.

Barren trees will sprout new leaves. Blades of grass and dandelions will push up from the ground. Tiny flowers of purple and pink will decorate our paths.

Spring is a morning kiss after a luxurious evening of deepest rest.

Next Sunday, however, we are visiting the cold and beautiful mountains where outdoor activities provide thrills and chills followed by warm beverages and delightful dinners. We will celebrate winter’s best gifts for a few days and return home gladly able to store away coats and gloves, scarves and woolens.

An early walk through the busy streets of Hanoi took us past a group of women in matching dress rehearsing their morning ritual greeting the day with synchronous dance. Their smiles of acknowledgment linger in my mind.

A morning run along the harbor in San Diego wound past aging men and women greeting the sun as it rose above the high hills to the sound of gentle waves greeting the grains of sand on the shore.

The dripping from the leaves and needles of a Washington State forest arrest senses with aromas of evergreen. The reflections on the lake and the hushed gurgle of the nearby stream soothe and comfort and heal.

Awakening at sea, curtains pulled back from the window revealed a world of bluest blue. Blue above, blue below, blue forever.

How could we not praise God from whom all these blessings flow?

I will worship our Father in heaven who so wondrously decorates the earth.

Our Father, I wholeheartedly agree with the poet David. “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Joy is the gift you give when we take our delight in the beautiful world you have created and given for our enjoyment. Awaken our senses to experience your goodness. We will sing songs of adoration. Immersed in your beauty, we will commune with you. Amen.

Daily D – Psalm 141:3-4

Psalm 141:3, 4
“Take control of what I say, O LORD,
and guard my lips.
Don’t let me drift toward evil
or take part in acts of wickedness.
Don’t let me share in the delicacies
of those who do wrong.”

Daily D – Jeremiah 32:38-41

Jeremiah 32:38-41 “They will be my people, and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good for them. I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me, and they will never leave me. I will find joy doing good for them and will faithfully and wholeheartedly replant them in this land.”

Daily D – Jeremiah 29:11-14

Jeremiah 29:11-14 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”

Daily D – Psalm 138:1-3

Psalm 138:1-3
“I give you thanks, O LORD, with all my heart;
I will sing your praises before the gods.
I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.
As soon as I pray, you answer me;
you encourage me by giving me strength.”

Daily D – Jeremiah 23:18

Jeremiah 23:18 “Have any of these prophets been in the Lord’s presence to hear what he is really saying? Has even one of them cared enough to listen?”
