Luke 2:36-38 There was also a prophetess, Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well along in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and was a widow for eighty-four years. She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers. At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. (CSB)

God’s timing is perfect. He is never early, never late. When we live our lives in step with him, we too will find ourselves in the right place at the right time. Take for example the characters from the Christmas story.

Simeon was in the right place at the right time. He was where he was supposed to be when he was supposed to be there. (See Luke 2:25-35.)

Anna was also in the right place at the right time. Indeed, she was always where she was at this time. She had been there for a long time and was prepared to stay for the rest of her life. She was a prophetess, a female prophet.

The last prophet to speak or write a word from God was Malachi. Now hundreds of years later, God spoke through a little old lady who made her home as close to the visible presence of God as possible.

Her disciplined life (“serving God night and day with fasting and prayers”) placed her in position to see her prayers answered. She did two things upon recognizing Jesus for who he is. First, she thanked God. This is an automatic response for those who live in the expectancy of hearing God’s voice and seeing God’s hand at work.

Second, she did what a prophet does. She spoke truth to all who would listen. The Redeemer had arrived.

Christmas is a story filled with old people. Zechariah and Elizabeth were well past the normal age for having children. Simeon had lived a long life and was ready for the grave now that he had seen God fulfill his promise to him personally and to the whole world as well. Anna was well advanced in years. The wise men? They were most likely well seasoned.

The Christmas story also has a few notable young people. Mary was most likely a teenager. The company of shepherds was probably made up of teenagers and children.

People from all age groups and people groups converged to welcome Jesus into the world he created. Wise men and women and boys and girls and teenagers still do.

Have you made a place in your heart for Jesus? Is he welcome to move in? Is today the right time and the right place for you to know and experience him?

Today is a good day to learn to walk with Jesus. You will always find yourself in the right place at the right time. You never know what fascinating people you will meet. You do know life with Jesus will always be an adventure!

Our Father, I want to be where you want me to be when you want me to be there. Lead me step by step through this day. Take me by the hand and show me the way. Amen.

Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Daily D – Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.”

Daily D – 2 Kings 25:27-30

2 Kings 25:27-30 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table. Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.
