Isaiah 60:1, 19, 20  Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD shines over you. The sun will no longer be your light by day, and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you. The LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your splendor. Your sun will no longer set, and your moon will not fade; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your sorrow will be over. (CSB)

Get out of bed, Jerusalem!
Wake up. Put your face in the sunlight.
GOD’s bright glory has risen for you.

The Message
In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.

John 1:4, 5
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

My bride and I drove through a portion of Fort Worth filled with older homes that have been restored and are now decorated for Christmas. The lights and colors in the gathering dark exude welcome and wonder.

Neighbors decorate their homes stylishly and lavishly. Our friend next door paid a company to decorate her home. It is lovely. Then there is our house. The outside is unadorned. The roof is too steep and I am too uncreative to artistically arrange the lights my bride purchased so unwisely.

Inside, our tree remains in its box in the garage. We await a handyman’s arrival this afternoon to finish a project and make things ready for our faux evergreen, its adornments, and lights.

Christmas lights delight our eyes. They attract attention with their beauty. They point beyond themselves to that Day of perfect illumination.

We live in the light of a New Day. We anticipate an even more brilliant hereafter.

To those in exile, to those who had turned their hearts back to God, to those who longed for home, God spoke words of comfort, hope, and everlasting light.

Consider how light plays its part in the coming of Jesus. There is the blinding light of an angelic choir singing to shepherds on what had been a dark hillside. There was a star of such brilliance wise men from afar followed it all the way to the one born King of the Jews.

However dark is your world, however dark are your thoughts, Christmas reminds us how the Light of the World pierces all darkness. The Light of the World cannot be extinguished. The Light of the World is evidence eternity has stepped into time and draws all of us toward the eternal brightness that is our future.

How warm and wonderful are God’s words through Isaiah:

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD shines over you.

I will delight myself in the Light of the World.

Our Father, your light shines all the brighter against the gathering darkness. Thank you that your light will extinguish all darkness. Amen.

Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!

when his loved ones die.

Daily D – Psalm 106:1-3

Psalm 106:1-3
Praise the LORD!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Who can list the glorious miracles of the LORD?
Who can ever praise him enough?
There is joy for those who deal justly with others
and always do what is right.

Daily D – Psalm 103:1-5

Psalm 103:1-5
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
