Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him. (CSB)

GOD is good,
A hiding place in tough times.
He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help,
No matter how desperate the trouble.
(The Message)

I wonder if I fired up my Logos Bible software and searched for the phrase “rock and refuge” in the book of Psalms how many hits I would get? Again and again, the ancient poets and songwriters celebrated God in these terms. The prophets, even the minor, pint-sized prophets like Nahum, also use this imagery.

God is our Rock, Refuge, and Hiding Place. He is our security and safety. He is our Provider and Protector. He is Good.

After a few thousand years of these declarations, the Apostle Peter summed up  all these sayings with this timeless truth found in 1 Peter 5:6, 7:

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God,
so that he may exalt you at the proper time,
casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.

God is Good. God is Mighty. God cares for you.

These are good thoughts to ponder when it appears things are going against you.

Can’t get anyone to help you with your problem? Keep asking, seeking, and knocking on heaven’s door. (See Matthew 7:7-12.)

Got bad reviews you don’t deserve? (See Psalm 18:1-3.)

Can’t see what’s next or which way to turn? (See Psalm 25:1-20.)

Need a song to sing reminding you of these truths? ([https://bit.ly/3wB1uu0])

In the distance I can see the storm clouds coming my way,
And I need to find a shelter
Before it starts to rain,
So I turn and run to you Lord;
You’re the only place to go,
Where unfailing love surrounds me
When I need it most.

You’re my hiding place;
Safe in your embrace,
I’m protected from the storm that rages
When the waters rise,
And I run to hide;
Lord, in You I find my hiding place.

I’m not asking You to take away
My troubles, Lord,
‘Cause it’s through the stormy weather
I learn to trust You more.
So I thank You for Your promise;
I have come to know
Your unfailing love surrounds me
When I need it most.

Rest in this thought today: I am safe in his embrace.

I will trust God as my rock, refuge, and hiding place.

Our Father, life can be hard. You are always good. Life is full of bad news, unending waits, and painful moments of deepest humiliation. You are our rock and our refuge. You give us a place to hide from the glare of evil eyes and sadistic sneers. Thank you that in my distress, you are at your best. Amen.

Daily D – Acts 20:22-24

Acts 20:22-24 “And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there, except that in every town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions are waiting for me. But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.”

Daily D – Acts 16:14

Acts 16:14 A God-fearing woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying.

Daily D – Acts 13:9

Acts 13:9 But Saul — also called Paul — filled with the Holy Spirit, stared straight at Elymas

Daily D – Acts 12:24

Acts 12:24 But the word of God spread and multiplied.

Daily D – Acts 9:19-22

Acts 9:19-22 And after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul was with the disciples in Damascus for some time. Immediately he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues: “He is the Son of God.”
All who heard him were astounded and said, “Isn’t this the man in Jerusalem who was causing havoc for those who called on this name and came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests?”
But Saul grew stronger and kept confounding the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
