Matthew 1:24  When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. (NLT)

To hear and obey God is the most important lesson we will ever learn. To help others hear and obey God is the most important lesson we will ever teach. God says more than we perceive. His instructions create more delight than we have known.

And so, in the hardest moment of decision he ever faced, God overruled Joseph’s kind decision with the most extraordinary kindness yet known. (See verses 18-21).

Joseph discovered he was part of a bigger story, the biggest story, the best news since God said, “Let there be . . . ,” and it was, and it was very good. The bigger story was, in part, how God was not simply the Creator of all things standing beyond his creation but was coming into the world he created to set all things right that had gone wrong since Adam and Eve chose to go their own way.

Mary’s baby had a divine origin. He had a special future. He would be what all of history passed pointed to and longed for. He would be what all of history and every people group, indeed, every person, would need. He would be Immanuel, God with us.

Joseph immediately turned from thoughts of divorce to submissive obedience to God’s bigger, better plan. He heard God’s message. He obeyed God’s instructions. He became a dad to our Father’s Son.

God’s most beautiful and best gifts are given to those who hear what he says and follow his instructions. Decorate your life with ears to hear. Beautify the world with joyful obedience.

I will hear and obey God and help others do the same.

Our Father, give me ears to hear what you are saying to me today. Give me a willing and obedient heart to do what you say. Make me a blessing to someone today. Amen.

Daily D – Job 1:9-11

Job 1:9-11 Satan replied to the LORD, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

Daily D – Psalm 145:17

Psalm 145:17
The Lord is righteous in everything he does;
he is filled with kindness.

Daily D – Psalm 139:1-6

Psalm 139:1-6
O LORD, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!

Daily D – Psalm 130

Psalm 130
From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.
Hear my cry, O Lord.
Pay attention to my prayer.

Daily D – Psalm 125:4-5

Psalm 125:4, 5
O LORD, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!
